SUMMARY

The CSRU Behavioral Health Technician provides supervision and guidance for the individuals who reside within the program by performing the following duties.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

The BHT must possess a high school diploma or equivalent (GED). Prior experience working in the behavioral health field preferred. Associate's and Bachelor's degree in a human service related field preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic math.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to participate in physical restraints of the clients. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, escort clients to specified locations, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

General Duties

Duties the employee performs that although important do not have as major an impact on the delivery of services to our clientele

  • The physical care of the facilities and agency equipment.
  • Participating in weekly team meetings.
  • Interacting with client families in a courtesy and professional manner.
  • Knowing and supporting the agency philosophy, mission, vision and value statement.
  • Attending and completing scheduled required annual training.
  • Acting as a positive role model for the clients and other staff.
  • Working as a member of a team including, being supportive and friendly to co-workers, keeping personal problems away from work, splitting duties equally amongst co-workers, assisting co-workers when requested and welcoming new employees giving then extra support and encouragement.
  • Knowing medication that the individuals are taking, any possible side effects and times meds are administered
  • Following through on directives given to him/her by a supervisor or by other designated team leaders within the agency.
  • Keeping communication open between all levels of staff.
  • Reporting to work in a timely manner when scheduled.
  • Making copies of data sheets on a regular basis.
  • Ordering office and household supplies on a regular basis.
  • Inspecting the unit on a weekly basis to find safety concerns, and infection control issues and filing reporting this information on a physical environment checklist.
  • Ensuring that the resident's files are organized and up-to-date.

Vital Duties

Duties the employee may be required to perform that have a major impact on the delivery of services to our clientele

  • Supervision of the individuals which includes:
    • Ensuring individuals follow agency and program procedures.
  • Knowing the individuals locations at all times.
  • Following schedules
  • Using behavior management techniques in a professional manner when required.
  • Using appropriate counseling techniques to assist in the individual's treatment
  • Interacting with the individuals in a respectful manner that is appropriate for the situation.
  • Knowing and functioning within the framework of the individual's Treatment Plan.
  • Documentation of important information and data in a timely and professional manner as prescribed by the unit/program supervisor.
  • Fulfilling the duties of Night Watch when scheduled to do so.
  • Participating in Community Meetings
  • Participating in treatment meetings.
  • Completing the documentation and behavior observations sheets in a timely manner
  • Utilizing Positive Behavior Supports
  • Assisting with the completion of the initial intake upon assignment from the program director
  • Assisting with completion of the initial treatment plan
  • Facilitation of treatment plan review
  • Participation in all team meetings and consultations as needed.
  • Ordering office and unit supplies on a regular basis.
  • Inspecting the unit on a weekly basis to find safety concerns, and infection control issues and filing reporting this information on a physical environment checklist.
  • Ensuring that the resident's files are organized and up-to-date.

PROBATION EXPECTATIONS

Must demonstrate during probation competencies in the following areas:

  1. Working with CSRU Clients
  2. Maintaining structure and a therapeutic environment

4. Utilizing positive behavior supports

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to individuals who have mild to moderate intellectual developmental disabilities autistic and may have severe behavior disorders and individuals who have the potential to be hiv-positive, have hepatitis or other communicable diseases. Employment may also require exposure to clients who have a mental health diagnosis which might include: attention deficit/ hyperactivity disorder, conduct disorder, oppositional defiant disorder, borderline personality disorder, borderline intellectual functioning, depression, bipolar disorder to name a few. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

AGENCY EXPECTATIONS

Staff are expected to:

1. Preserve the positive public image of the agency and its staff.

2. Be familiar with Agency's Procedure and Personnel Manuals and function within the directives provided.

3. Be aware of and follow state regulations.

4. Report to administrative staff any situation that interferes with proper operation of the department/agency.

5. Report to administrative staff any actions by another employee which may constitute possible emotional or physical abuse.

6. Maintain a confidential attitude in regards information pertaining to the individuals we serve.

TRAINING REQUIREMENTS

This position requires participation in ongoing mandatory trainings while employed. Training requirements are detailed in the Training Plan which is maintained by the Human Resources Department. Along with their supervisor, each staff person is responsible for reviewing the Training Matrix to determine individual training requirements and completing those requirements in a timely manner.

PHYSICAL/HEALTH ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

This position is required to have a pre-employment physical and a physical every other year thereafter.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Behavioral Health Technician does not directly supervise any staff.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires an active driver's license and a DMV check that is clear. Position may require travel in the local community or to assist with individuals attending required appointments or visits 5-10% of the time.
